Six heavy duty fans provide cooling for the chassis. These fans circulate air through
the chassis as a means of lowering the chassis internal temperature.
Replacing Internal System Fans

The SC848 chassis can support six internal system fans.
Replacing an Internal System Fan
1. If necessary, open the chassis top cover while the power is running to deter-
mine which fan has failed. (Never run the server for an extended period of
time with the chassis top cover open.)
2. Power down the system, unplug the cords from the back of the power sup-
plies and remove the chassis top cover.
3. Press the fan release tab to lift the failed fan from the chassis and pull it
completely from the chassis.
4. Place the new fan into the vacant space in the housing while making sure the
arrows on the top of the fan (indicating air direction) point in the same direc-
tion as the arrows on the other fans.
5. Power up the system and check that the fan is working properly before install-
ing the top cover back onto the chassis.
