7.4 Flap& Gear Selection
The PF shall request configuration changes. The PM must confirm that the speed/altitude criteria
are met and then action the desired configuration change. The PM must only respond once the
configuration change is complete.The challenge and response for flap selection is as follows:

, to which the response shall be(PM):

The response
“selected”
is made by the PM when the appropriate lever ismoved. The PM shall
monitor the flap position and alert the PF if the flaps do notreach the desired position. The flap
position is to be described as either Up, 18 or 42.

It is good airmanship to extend the flaps and gear below the limiting speeds, not at the limiting
speeds.
NOTE:
To prevent the
“EXTEND LANDING GEAR“
warning, ensuregear is selected
“DOWN”
before flap
selection (V
LE
= 135 KIAS) .The warning will also illuminates if both engines are on idle and
airspeed isbelow 111 KIAS with the landing gear retracted.
