APR mode should not be selected until:
•
The VOR is tuned and identified
•
CDI Green with correct Nav source selected.
•
The aircraft is on an inbound intercept heading
•
CDI is in the proper position (correct sense)
•
Clearance for the approach has been received.
7.18.4 Altitude Selector Use On CANPA Approaches
AP/FD in use: once inbound to the FAF and in ALT HOLD mode, set the MDA.
If theMDA is not at an even number, set the ALT SELECTto the nearest 100 feet above the
MDA(H). Oncecommencing the missed approach set the missed approach altitude.
7.18.5 Final Approach Using VS
Approaching the FAF
(approximately 1-2 nm), select flaps 18 and adjustspeed to 90 KIAS.
At or after the FAF or once established inbound on an approach with noFAF:
commence
descent and complete the final checklist. Select VS mode anddescend at appropriate vertical
speed to arrive at the MDA(H) at a distancefrom the runway (VDP) to allow a normal landing
profile.
When stabilized in a descent on final approach
, several techniques may be used to make small
incremental changes to the resulting vertical speedin order to achieve a constant angle
descent to minimums/VDP.
•
Descend @ 5 X your groundspeed (for a 3 degree slope).
•
Using approximately 300 feet per nm for a 3° slope,
•
determine the desired altitude above the ground whichcorresponds to the distance in
nm from the runway end. The PM can thencall out recommended altitudes as the
distance to the runway changes, for example: 900 ft = 3 nm, 600 ft = 2 nm. etc. (Refer to
the table 1 chapter7.18.2 )
•
The descent rate should be adjusted in small increments for significantdeviations from the
nominal path.
