Adjust airplane heading and timing so that the airplane ground track does notexceed the
obstruction clearance distance from the runway at any time duringthe circling approach.
The following procedure is recommended:
•
at minimums,
turn 45° left or right
as appropriate
•
time for 30 seconds
before turning to the downwind heading.
•
Once abeamthe landing threshold,
time for 40 seconds
before beginning the turn to
base.
This should ensure the aircraft stays within the protected area. Before turningbase or when
initiating the turn to base leg, select flaps as required and begindecelerating to the approach
speed plus wind correction. Complete the landingchecklist.
Do not descend below MDA(H) until intercepting the visual profile tothe landing runway. Leaving
MDA(H), disengage the autopilot (if engaged).
It is recommended that pilot with the runway on his/ her side maintains visualcontact with the
runway while providing instructions to the other pilot. The PFshould concentrate mostly on the
instrument and fly the instructed vectors, speeds and altitudes.
If the FO is PM, they shall use the timer and HDG bug to assist determination of turns while the
Captain as PF shall use the timer to the left ofthe flight instruments. When turning base and the
