“original PF“(the pilot whowas PF during the initial phase of the approach) has the runway in
sight, he/she may take control and continue the approach and land (Captain discretion).
NOTE
For circling procedures, DO NOT press the autopilot transfer when transferring controltemporarily
as this will add to workload and could lead to errors.
7.21.6 Missed Approach – Circling
If a missed approach is required at any time while circling, make a climbingturn in the shortest
direction toward the landing runway. This may result in aturn greater than 180° to intercept the
missed approach course. Continue theturn until established on an intercept heading to the
missed approach coursecorresponding to the instrument approach procedure just flown.
Maintain themissed approach flap setting until close-in maneuvering is completed.
Different patterns may be required to become established on the prescribedmissed approach
course. This depends on aircraft position at the time themissed approach is started. The following
figure illustrates the maneuveringthat may be required. This ensures the aircraft remains within
the circling andmissed approach obstruction clearance areas.
In the event that a missed approach must be accomplished from below theMDA(H),
consideration should be given to selecting a flight path whichassures safe obstacle clearance
until reaching an appropriate altitude on thespecified missed approach path.
