3.11 Radar Altimeter
KRA 405B (with EFIS EFI 890R system).
THE RADAR ALTIMETER IS AN AWARENESS TOOL ONLY AND IS NOT TO BE USED TO
DETERMINE MINIMUMS. THE BAROMETRIC MINIMUM (ALTIMETER) REMAINS THE
PRIMARY SOURCE.
The RA index can be set to a required height by means of the RA/DA push button
and BARO SET MINIMUMS knob on the display control panel.
The radar altimeter shall be set at 2,500 feet before departure and remain set
throughout the flight except as required for arrival/approach requirements.
For arrival the radar altimeter shall be set to
MDH+50 feet
for non-precision
approaches and
DH
for precision approaches.
For visual approaches in reduced visibility the radar altimeter shall be set to
500
feet AGL.
For visual approaches in VMC, there is no requirement for crew to set the Radar
Altimeter, however it maybe used at crew discretion.
