3.13 Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS)
It provides the followings alerts:
1.
Excessive Closure Rate (ECR):
System issues an alert when the airplane is determined to be closing upon terrain
at an excessive speed for a given gear and flaps configuration. Alerts are
inhibited when the airplane is 5 NM from the nearest airport.
2.
Excessive Descent Rate (EDR):
System issues an alert when the airplane is determined to be descending upon
terrain at an excessive rate.
3.
Flight Into Terrain (FIT)
System issues an alert when the airplane is too low with respect to terrain based
on landing gear status, flaps position, and groundspeed. When flaps extension is
not expected, Flap override key on the TAWS-A Menu selection inhibits the alert
issuance. In such a case FLAP O/R annunciation is displayed on the TAWS-A page.
4.
Negative Climb Rate After Take-Off Alert (NCR)
The alert issuance is conditioned by the airplane continually losing altitude after
take-off. Additionally following conditions are met:
-
Height above the terrain is less than 700 feet
-
Distance from the departure airport is 2 NM or less
-
Heading change from the departure heading is less than 110°
GPWS alerts (ECR, EDR, FIT) can be inhibited by pressing the Menu key on the
Terrain page and thenGPWS Inhibit key.
