PREFLIGHT
4.1 Crew Daily and Pre-flight Briefing
The intention of these briefings is to ensure that all crew members are aware of all pertinent
factors which may affect the conduct of the flights. By discussingthese factors early in the duty
period and before flights, there is ample time torevise plans and straighten out misconceptions.
This will enable each Takeoff brief to be a concise statement rather than a discussion.
The daily briefing should cover a discussion of:
•
Crew Introduction / Experience Level/Currency
•
General flight schedule for the day
•
General weather
•
NOTAMS
•
ASHTAMS
•
Aircraft serviceability and readiness. (
Check discrepancy page and MEL)
A particularly important item to be included in the daily briefing is the roles of each crew
member during an emergency. The captain should decide and define if they willautomatically
take immediate control as PF in an emergency situation.
The pre-flight briefing should cover a discussion of:
•
Flight plan, departure route, takeoff weight, flight route
•
Weather
•
NOTAMS
•
Fuel requirements
•
Operational Flight Plan
4.1.1Emergency Briefing (CAPT/PF):
The take-off briefing is a review of the departure with emphasis on actions that the crew willtake
in the event of an emergency. The briefing will be done prior to each take-off andbefore the
aircraft moves under its own power from the parking position through the actionof the PIC.
The Captain is responsible for the rejected take-off
(RTO).
TheCaptain will therefore conduct the
initial part of the RTO briefing if the FO is the PF. If theCaptain is PF, then they conduct the full
briefing.
In the event of an emergency after take-off, the PF will continue to fly the aircraft and the crew
will deal with the emergency as dictated by the Emergency Procedure. After the required
memory items have been actioned and the aircraft is at a safe altitude, the Captain willelectthe
PF regardless of previous assigned duties.
