Options and Accessories
Several additional pieces of equipment are available from TA Instruments to be used with the DSC. A brief
description of each one follows. For more information refer to the online documentation.
Tzero Sample Encapsulating Press
The TA Instruments Q Series Tzero Sample Encapsulating Press is used to prepare
encapsulated samples for DSC experiments. It comes with die sets for hermetic and
non-hermetic sealing. The online documentation provides details about using this
accessory.
DSC Autosampler
The DSC Autosampler, also known as the Auto DSC, is
standard on the TA Instruments' DSC Q2000 and Q1000, and
an optional accessory to the DSC Q200, Q100, and Q20.
The Autosampler is a four-axis robotic device that automat-
ically loads sample and reference pans to and from the Dif-
ferential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) measurement cell.
Once the Autosampler loads the pans and the cell covers are
in place, the controller takes over and runs the prepro-
grammed thermal analysis experiments. After the experi-
ment is complete, the instrument uncovers the cell the
Autosampler then unloads the pans. The unattended process
can be preprogrammed to run up to 50 experiments.
Photocalorimeter Accessory
(PCA)
The Photocalorimeter Accessory (PCA) is used with the TA
Instruments Q2000, Q1000, Q200, and Q100 Differential Scan-
ning Calorimeters. This accessory allows samples placed
inside the DSC cell to be irradiated with ultraviolet or visible
light. When the samples (usually photopolymers) react to the
light, heat is released (
i.e
., an exothermic reaction occurs). This
heat is measured and used to study the relative reactivity and/
or kinetics of reaction. The reactions studied are typically rapid
and results are obtained in less than 15 minutes.
