I/O connections to the system are established via 16 female 25 pair connectors on the
rear of the motherboard on each peripheral shelf.
Figure
illustrates the Coral
FlexiCom 6000 slot cabinet as viewed from the rear. I/O connections are only
provided for Universal I/O slots (slots 3 to 18). Mating male plugs should be industry
standard, Amphenol

Upper and Lower Connectors
Eight of the I/O connectors are mounted on the Peripheral Shelf motherboard above
the card cage and are referred to as the
upper

connectors are mounted on the motherboard below the card cage and are referred to as
the
lower
connectors.
Odd and Even Slots
Each Universal I/O slot is referred to as an odd or even slot corresponding to the
location of its wire pairs in the associated upper and lower I/O connectors. Card slot
to cable pair relationships are identified in
Card Slot to I/O Connector Relationship
The I/O connections for each card slot are divided between two I/O connectors, one
upper and one lower. There are a total of twenty four wire pairs for each card slot.
Each card in an odd even slot is allotted 16 wire pairs on its corresponding
upper
I/O
connector and 8 wire paris on its corresponding
lower
I/O connector.
Each card in an even odd slot is allotted eight wire pairs on its corresponding
upper
I/O connector and 16 wire pairs on its corresponding
lower
I/O connector.
Thus, each I/O connector provides half of the I/O connections for two card slots. Pair
25 on each I/O connector is not used. See
