MCP-ATS
Main Processor Card
The MCP-ATS is the main control processor for the Coral FlexiCom 6000 system. The
MCP-ATS card supervises overall system operation.
The MCP-ATS card contains the main control processor circuitry and utilizes a
powerful Pentium microprocessor with PC architecture, which connects to the
backplane with Compact PCI.
The front panel of the MCP-ATS card includes a communication serial COM (PC
port) for programming and maintenance interface. The main processor receives status
messages from the system ports and determines the appropriate response based on
programming entries contained in the system database.
The MCP-ATS is a “hot insertion” card which allows the technician to remove the card
from its powered up slot while the MCP-ATS from the other side takes control.
Program Interface Connection
The Program Interface (PI) provides a menu driven program facility for viewing and
updating the Coral system database, and for performing and monitoring diagnostic
routines, from a simple data terminal or personal computer. The PI terminal is
connected to the COM1 (9 pin RS-232 connector) data terminal port provided on the
MCP-ATS front panel, otherwise known as the KB0 connection.
describes the KB0 RS-232 pin connections to the PI terminal.
Hot Standby systems require each MCP-ATS to be connected to its own PI device,
where one is always Active, while the other is in Standby mode, see
Device Connection beginning on page 2-49
for further PI connection details.
