This section describes how to insert and remove a control card from the main control
card cage. For specific information pertaining to the following cards, see the
following:
For 32GC control card, see

Inserting a Control Card
1.
Connect the ESD wrist strap connector to the cage and put on the strap.
2.
If applicable, remove the battery protection insulator strip from underneath the
battery. See
Lithium Backup Batteries, page 8-14
3.
If applicable, verify that the daughterboard has been assembled onto the
control card.
4.
Locate the correct card slot and orient the card as follows:
If this card is to be inserted on the right side of the control cage, insert the
card right side up (the component side of the card is facing right). See
Figures
through
and
for upright cards.
If the card is to be inserted on the left side of the control cage, insert the
card upside down (the component side of the card is facing left).
5.
Align the card top and bottom edge of the card on the slot guides.

Inserting and Removing a Control Card
Circuit cards contain static-sensitive circuitry and might be damaged or destroyed by
electro-static discharge (ESD). Always wear the static dissipating wrist strap connected
to the system cabinet or card cage while handling circuit cards. Hold circuit cards by
their edges and avoid touching contact surfaces. Handle with care and do not drop.
Failure to observe safe handling procedures for static sensitive circuitry may result in
permanent damage to a card.
