has a unique IP address and hostname which allows data packets to be
routed correctly between them and the outside world. Subject to access
privileges, the various computers are able to share applications and
files. In this case

movement between this segment and any others within the same
organization and provides access to the Internet.
Registering Internet addresses
Internet addresses are allocated and administered globally by the
DDN/ARPANET Network Information Center (NIC). An Internet
address and domain name can be obtained directly from the NIC or
from a network access provider who will register one on your behalf.
