takwak does its best to keep the group service running
round-the-clock but does not guarantee it to be avail-
able at all times.
The group features also interact with the built-in 8-
channel PMR446-band walkie talkie (0.5 W, 446 MHz).
The takwak software on your tw700 remembers the
nicknames, mobile phone numbers (if specified) and
internal IDs of the members of previous groups. You
can form a group which is identical to a previous group
or you can pick individual, already known persons from
a stored contacts list and put them in a new group.
A special pairing technology based on Bluetooth com-
munications can be used to add new people to the
contacts list in the takwak software. Due to the maxi-
mum range of Bluetooth, the participating devices
must be less than approx. 10 m apart during the dis-
covery process. No distance limitations apply once a
person’s group contact details are known to your de-
vice. In this case, group formation is done using mes-
sages sent via the takwak server using GPRS or Wi-Fi.
A new, unknown contact only has to pair with the
person managing group formation to distribute his
contact details among all other online group members.
In future, all other group members devices will remem-
ber his or her group contact details and so he or she
can then join groups with the other members without
using Bluetooth pairing again.
As an alternative to Bluetooth pairing, you can enter a
new person’s contact details into the takwak software
manually. This is useful if the new person is currently
not in your vicinity. See
“Creating a new contact”
on
page 42.
Using group mode
To form a new group, all prospective participants in
the group should tap the Navigate Together button in
the twOutdoor widget or choose Form a Group in the
twOutdoor settings menu (see
“Form a Group”
on
page 35).
If you have already chosen Navigate Alone and you
now decide that you want to form a group, press
Menu and choose Settings » Form A Group.
Everyone should then see the Welcome to Group
screen:
