Operating Instructions
Read, understand, and follow the safety information listed
on the operating label on page 63 and in the “Important
Safety Information” section on pages 2-8 in this manual.
Disconnect all electric power to the water heater.
Turn the gas shut-off valve clockwise to the OFF
position. This valve is located on the outside of the
water heater. Wait 5 minutes to clear any gas. If you
don’t smell gas, proceed to Step 3.
NOTICE:
If you smell gas, STOP and follow
the safety instructions listed under B on the operating
label or on the front cover of this manual.
Turn the gas shut-off valve counterclockwise to the ON
position.
Turn on all electric power to the water heater. The
water heater burner will automatically light when there
is a demand for hot water.
WARNING:
DO NOT
attempt to light the
burner by hand. Lighting the burner by hand is an unsafe
operating condition that can result in death, personal
injury, property damage, and/or product damage.
If the water heater burner will not light, turn off the
water heater as described below and call your service
technician or gas supplier.
Shutting Off the Water Heater
Disconnect all electric power to the water heater.
Turn the gas shut-off valve clockwise to the OFF
position.
