Thread tension normal
Top thread tension too low
Top thread tension too high
Adjusting the thread tension
Adjust the thread tension if the thread
breaks during sewing (tension too high)
or if no loops form (tension too low).
The tensions of the upper and bottom
threads must always be balanced.
Top thread tension:
The adjustment dial should always be
on AUTO. If you use other than 120
thread you may have to alter the top
thread tension: Move the adjustment
dial in order to adjust the top thread
tension. The correct tension is between
"1" and "3" for thin fabrics, between "3"
and "5" for medium weight fabrics, and
between "6" and "9" for heavy fabrics.
Bottom thread tension:
The bottom thread tension set in the
factory only needs to be altered in
exceptional circumstances. Always start
by adjusting the top thread tension.
The bottom thread tension is correct
when the thread can be drawn out of
the bobbin case with only light pres-
sure. If the thread comes out too easily
the pressure is too low. If it is too diffi-
cult to draw out or does not come out
at all, then the tension is too high.
To adjust the bottom thread tension,
use the adjustment screw on the bobbin
case. To do this you need a small screw-
driver:
1. Take out the bobbin case.
2. To increase tension:
Turn the adjusting screw clockwise
To decrease tension:
Turn the adjusting screw anticlok-
kwise.
