Word sync
Use this feature to lock your entire system to a single sync
signal (clock) by connecting this unit to the Esoteric D-03, G-
0s or similar device that outputs a sync signal, or when you
want to use any other precision external clock rather than the
one inside the P-03 Universal.
Each press of the WORD button turns the function on or off.
Word ON

Word OFF (normal playback)
<
This unit is ready for the following clocks and switches itself
depending on an incoming signal:
44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz, 176.4kHz, 192kHz
This unit also accepts a Universal Clock frequency of 100 kHz.
<
The indicator flashes and the unit starts searching for an
external sync signal when “Word ON” is selected. The
indicator changes to a steady blue light when the unit detects
and locks on to an external clock, indicating it is ready for
playback.
<
Make connections to the WORD SYNC terminal before
turning on the unit.
<
Switching word sync on and off may occasionally result in
noise from the D/A converter. In this situation, turn off the
unit and lower the amplifier sound volume before switching
the function on or off.
PAL 4% DOWN mode
This allows a 4% reduction in frame rate. PAL video plays
back at 25 frames per second (fps), but movies are shot at
24fps. This mode helps to resolve the discrepancy by allowing
an external clock source at 4% less than standard to be
received. The external clock source should be set to this 4%
frequency reduction (called “PAL FILM” on the optional
Esoteric G-0 and G-0s models).
Press and hold the WORD button for three seconds or
more to turn on or off the PAL 4% down mode.
<
Note that the signals from the composite video outputs are
cancelled when this mode is selected. In addition, the audio
pitch drops.
<
The PAL 4% down mode works during playback of a PAL disc
only.
<
The PAL 4% down mode doesn’t work when the up
conversion is set to “CONV DSD”.
