Accumulator Selection
Selecting the proper size is of primary importance.
Only one factor need be considered in order to
assure the correct accumulator for a particular sys-
tem: the total refrigerant charge in that system.
It is not necessary to know the holding capacity of
the accumulator or system variants such as evapora-
tor temperature and capacity in tons of refrigeration.
These factors were considered in the design and test-
ing of the accumulator.
If on older systems, the system refrigerant charge is
not known, consider the “rule-of-thumb” provided
in Table 6-1 when selecting the correct size of suc-
tion accumulator:
