THIS SYMBOL DRAWS ATTENTION TO
IMPORTANT SAFETY REGULATIONS WHICH,
IF NOT APPLIED, COULD PRESENT A
HAZARD TO THE SAFETY OF PERSONNEL
AND/OR TO YOUR PROPERTY AND THAT OF
THIRD PARTIES. BEFORE PERFORMING ANY
WORK WITH YOUR TECUMSEH MOTOR,
READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS
MANUAL CAREFULLY AS WELL AS THOSE
SUPPLIED WITH THE MOWING MACHINE ON
WHICH THIS MOTOR IS FITTED.

OIL AND FUEL

To ensure good operation of the TECUMSEH motor
always use:

(1) CLEAN TOP QUALITY DETERGENT

OIL

API-SF classification. We recommend use of
SAE30 oil.
The following MULTIGRADE oils can also be used,
provided they are of API-SF, or SG or CCMC-G3,
G4, G5 quality.
SUMMER (or above 10°C): SAE 15W40, SAE
20W30.
WINTER (or below 10°C): SAE 10W30, SAE 5W30.
The sump capacity is 0.6 litres.

(2) FUEL

USE FRESH, CLEAN PETROL EITHER UNLEADED
OR REGULAR. LEADED SUPER PETROL CAN BE
CONSIDERED AN ACCEPTABLE ALTERNATIVE.

IMPORTANT

: IF YOUR MOTOR IS FITTED WITH A

CATALYTIC CONVERTER, UNLEADED PETROL
MUST BE USED TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE
CATALYTIC CONVERTER. NEVER USE LEADED
PETROL.
NEVER USE PETROL FROM THE PREVIOUS SEA-
SON OR WHICH HAS BEEN STORED FOR A
LONG PERIOD OF TIME. UNLEADED PETROL
MUST NOT BE STORED FOR A LONG TIME.

N.B. use clean oil and petrol, stored in closed con-
tainers. Use a clean funnel to fill up.

BEFORE START-UP

(1) READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR

THE MOWING MACHINE ON WHICH
THE MOTOR IS FITTED.

(2) FILL THE SUMP WITH OIL OR CHECK

THE OIL LEVEL.

IMPORTANT:

to prevent damage to the motor,

only run it if:
- the oil level is between the “MIN” and “MAX”

signs on the dip-stick (if the motor has one)

- the oil is at the upper edge of the filler mouth (if

the motor is without a dip-stick)

- the oil cap has first been locked on the filler

mouth or the oil pipe.

CHECK THE OIL LEVEL REPEATEDLY DURING
OPERATION.

A. MOTOR WITH OIL DIP-STICK

1. Position the machine so that the motor is on

the level.

2. Clean the area around the oil filler pipe (Fig.

1-1).

3. Unscrew the cap with the dip-stick.
4. Clean the dip-stick, insert it in the mouth

again, screw in completely, then remove it
again. If the oil level is below the “MIN” sign,
add a recommended oil.

IMPORTANT: Do not fill above the “MAX” level indicated
on the dip-stick.

5. Reposition the filler cap and dip-stick, screwing
in completely.

B. MOTOR WITHOUT OIL DIP-STICK

1. Position the machine so that the motor is on

the level.

2. Clean the area around the oil filler cap (Fig. 1-

2).

3. Unscrew the oil cap.
4. If the oil level does not reach the edge of the

cylinder, add a recommended oil.
Pour slowly.

5. Screw the filler cap in completely.

FOR FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING THE OIL,
WE REFER YOU TO THE “MAINTENANCE” CHAPTER.

C. MOTOR WITH OIL SENTINEL (OPTIONAL) -

see Fig. 2.

If, when you pull the STARTER cord, the oil senti-
nel flashes and the motor will not start, or if the
motor stops and will not start again there is insuffi-
cient oil in the motor. Oil must therefore be added.
Fill up with oil to the “MAX” level on the dip-stick
(Fig. 1-1) or up to the upper edge of the oil filler
mouth (Fig. 1-2).

(3) FILLING THE FUEL TANK (Fig. 4-3)

A. Clean the area around the fuel filler cap and
unscrew the cap (Fig. 4-2).
B. Slowly pour petrol into the fuel tank, using a
funnel to prevent petrol from spilling.

IMPORTANT: NEVER MIX OIL WITH PETROL

C. Replace the filler cap and clean off any spla-
shes of petrol.

NEVER FILL UP IN A CLOSED ENVIRONMENT
OR WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING AND NEVER
SMOKE WHILE FILLING UP.

NEVER FILL THE TANK COMPLETELY.
CLEAN ANY SPLASHES OF PETROL BEFORE
STARTING THE MOTOR.

ANY SYSTEM USING LIQUEFIED GAS (LPG)
OR NATURAL GAS AS A PROPELLANT MUST
BE PERFECTLY WATERTIGHT AND MUST
MEET ALL CURRENT SAFETY STANDARDS.

(4) PERFORM THE FOLLOWING

CONTROLS

A. CHECK THAT THE MOWING MACHINE IS
ALWAYS IN NEUTRAL GEAR AND THAT THE
CLUTCH OR ANY DRIVE BELTS AND CHAINS
ARE DISCONNECTED (FOLLOW THE
INSTRUCTIONS OF THE MACHINE MANU-
FACTURER). ALL SAFETY SWITCHES MUST
BE IN THE POSITION ENVISAGED FOR STAR-
TING.

B. MAKE SURE that the cable hood is positioned
correctly on the sparkplug (Fig. 4-1).
C. MAKE SURE that any switch or control lever
installed on the motor or on the machine is in the
RUN or LEPRE position.
D. MAKE SURE the petrol tap is open (if there is
one).
