Close the TSIB
1. Place the chassis top cover on the TSIB chassis.
2. Plug the ground wire to the tab on the top cover (see Figure 1).
3. Install the four screws holding the cover in place.
Underwater Electronics Assembly Modifications
Static electricity can damage board components. TRDI recommends using an earth-grounded
wrist strap to help prevent such damage. You must have the wrist strap on whenever the UWEA
housing is removed.
1. Remove the UWEA housing. For instructions, see Chapter 2 in the Ocean Observer Direct Reading Tech-
nical Manual.
2. Replace the 4A fuse F1 on the Power Conditioner board with the new 8A Slow Blow fuse. This higher
rated fuse will not blow before the circuit breaker on the TSIB trips, effectively removing the fuse.
3. Install the UWEA housing. Replace the O-rings, desiccant, and hardware on the UWEA. A complete set
of the needed hardware, desiccant, and O-Rings is provided with the upgrade kit.

UWEA with Housing Removed
When power is removed or the Power-I/O cable is disconnected, the UWEA Capacitor Bank
voltage will discharge in approximately 0.5 seconds. However, the voltage of the Capacitor Bank
after discharge will remain at 4 to 5 volts DC for an extended period of time. While this voltage
level poses no safety risk, do not short the contacts of the UWEA Power I/O connector or ex-
pose them to water; contact degradation may result.
