Batteries
Check the condition of battery terminals and clamps. They should
be greased and free from deposits. Clean the top of the battery
casing if necessary.
Grease clamps with acid-free petroleum jelly (Vaseline).
Disconnect batteries before using a charger.
If starting with an auxiliary battery, take care to connect the
positive (+) terminal of the battery to the positive (+) terminal of the
starter and the negative (-) terminal of the battery to the negative (-
) terminal of the starter.
The negative lead should always be disconnected first and
connected last, e.g. when changing a battery. This avoids the risk
of short circuits.
WARNING
Explosive gases can be released from a battery during charging.
Do not expose cell vents to an open flame (risk of explosion).
Remove all the screw caps from batteries before charging.
Charge batteries in a well-ventilated area.
Batteries contain sulphuric acid. In the event of contact with the skin or eyes, wash with
copious amounts of water.
Danger: electrical voltage.
