The joystick does not function.
Two joystick ports cannot be active at the same time in a PC. Check whether the joystick port on
your motherboard/controller or the soundcard is switched off. You can switch off the soundcard
port via the configuration program (game-port disabled).
If my joystick is connected to the soundcard, the Wavetable sound is not played back.
The Wavetable sound returns as soon as I remove the joystick.
Some joysticks ground the pins of the port which they do not use and thus prevent the MIDI
data flow. There are two solutions for this problem:
• Use the interface card of your joystick or the joystick port of your controller and deactivate
the port on the soundcard.
• Switch off the MIDI-routing of both MIDI-interfaces to the game- and MIDI-port.
Are the MIDI ports of the soundcard compatible with the Roland MPU-401 standard?
The soundcard supports the Sound Blaster MIDI mode as well as the MPU-401 UART mode (not
the SMART mode; however, this does not diminish the performance as most programs support
the MPU-401 UART mode). Programs designed for the MPU-401 mode thus support your
soundcard directly.
If I use the MPU-401 mode (General MIDI, Roland Sound Canvas, GS, etc.), the system
crashes in my system with SCSI controller.
Check the I/O address on your SCSI adapter. The standard value on some common SCSI
controllers is 330H. Set this address figure to another value.
When certain MIDI files are played back under Windows, some instruments are not
reproduced.
The MIDI mapper (in the „system control“ of Windows 3.x) has not been correctly configured
for the audio file to be played. The file works with MIDI channels which do not lead to the
soundcard. Further information concerning the configuration of the MIDI mapper is set out in
your Windows or MIDI/Wavetable manual.
The MIDI files sound „cheap“ under Windows. Is it possible that I am only hearing
FM sounds?
The MIDI mapper (in the system control) or the MIDI configuration in the multimedia setup
under Windows 95 is set to „TerraTec FM Synthesis“. Select the setup „TerraTec MPU 1“ or
„General MIDI“.
