22. Take the new z value and subtract the original z position (

) - Z1 (
) = Z for
Use this number and find the closest match from
. The table provides an
approximate amount to rotate the middle-right thumbscrew to level the slide holder from
left to right. Rotate the thumbscrew clockwise if the number is positive; counterclockwise
if it is negative.
23. Carefully fasten the 3 hold-down screws starting at the back left corner of the slide holder,
then the front left, and finish with the middle-right hold-down screw.
Installing Objectives
Each objective is designed to work with a specific illuminator. For example, if your
microscope has the
reflected light brightfield illuminator
, only brightfield objectives will
work. If you have the optional
reflected light brightfield/darkfield illuminator
, then
brightfield and darkfield objectives can be used.
To install an objective
1. If there is no free space on the microscope nosepiece, unscrew one of the installed
objectives and gently remove if from the nosepiece.
2. If installing a brightfield only objective into a brightfield/darkfield illuminator, screw the
adapter ring into the nosepiece.
3. Gently screw the new objective into the nosepiece (or adapter).
4. If you just installed this objective for the first time,
create a new video calibration
for the
new objective.
If this objective has an existing video calibration,
Note
If it is critical for the top surface of the sample to be flat, the same leveling
technique can be applied to the top of a sample, except Table 1 will no longer be
valid. If sample is not very parallel, then leveling the top of the sample will result in
the sample holder no longer being level. Using a higher powered objective may help.
Note
To check the flatness, move the stage to any location on the same surface,
verifying that the image is in focus or near focus.
Note
If you have the reflected light brightfield/darkfield illuminator, you can use
objectives designed for the brightfield only illuminator if you use a special adapter.
