Servicing the Microscope
Cleaning Your Instrument
If the outside of the instrument needs cleaning, turn off the power to all components, unplug
the power strip from the wall outlet, and wipe the outside of the instrument with a damp (not
wet), soft cloth and a mild soap. Do not use harsh detergents, solvents, chemicals or abrasives.
Additionally, any spilled sample around the stage can be cleaned by removing the sample
holder and using a small vacuum then wiping with a damp cloth.
CAUTION
Avoid shock hazard or system damage. Do not allow liquid to run into the
power supply or the back of the instrument.
NOTICE
Avoid permanent damage inside the instrument. The optical components are
delicate, so be extremely careful when cleaning the microscope objectives.
• Do not attempt to clean or touch any optical surface inside the instrument
• Do not attempt to clean a filter or grating
• If an objective needs to be cleaned, use pressurized, filtered nitrogen or air to blow off
dust and other particles
–
If this is not sufficient, use commercial cleaning solution and lens paper that is
specifically for cleaning delicate glass lenses
