Touching
Quantizer
in the Function panel displays the Quantizer menu
(
), which controls posterization and solarization. Posterization
breaks smoothly changing luminance values into quantized levels. Solar-
ization creates quantized chrominance levels.
Figure 232. Quantizer Controls
Separate on/off controls for
Solarize
and
Posterize
in the Quantizer Mode
pane allow activation of any combination of the two features.
The
Quantization Levels
and
Solarization Levels
soft knob controls adjust the
number of quantization levels. The values displayed range from 1 to 10,
corresponding to the number of bits used to quantize the signal. For
example, a value of 4 bits results in 16 levels, and a value of 5 bits results in
32 levels, etc. A value of 10 represents full 10 bit resolution, which results
in no quantization effect. The actual number levels generated range from 1
to 1024, but the controls are logarithmic to better match human perception
of quantizing.
The
Reset to Unity
button sets the quantization levels to 10 (no visible effect).
