Belt Maintenance
Checking the Belts
Service Interval:
Every 100 hours—Check the
mower-deck belt(s).
Check belts for cracks, frayed edges, burn marks,
wear, signs of overheating, or any other damage.
The signs of a worn mower belt are squealing while
the belt is rotating, blades slipping while you are
cutting grass, frayed belt edges, burn marks, and
cracks. Replace the mower belt if you detect any of
these signs.
Replacing the Mower-Deck
Belt
1.
Disengage the PTO and engage the parking
brake.
2.
Shut off the engine, remove the key, and wait
for all moving parts to stop before leaving the
operating position.
3.
Open the engine guard; refer to
Engine Guard (page 27)
.
4.
Remove the guard extension; refer to
the Guard Extension (page 27)
.
5.
Remove the 4 carriage bolts and 4 nuts
connecting the 2 side covers to the belt covers

Remove the bolt connecting the 2 belt covers

Remove the 6 bolts connecting the belt covers
to the mower deck and slide the belt covers out
from under the idler cover (

Remove the belt.

Install the belt and route it as shown in

11.
Install the bolt to connect the 2 belt covers
