Adding Water to the Battery
IMPORTANT: Use only distilled water.
The best time to add distilled water to the battery is
just before you operate the machine. This lets the
water mix thoroughly with the electrolyte solution.
1.
Clean the top of the battery with a paper towel.
2.
Lift off the cell cover (Fig. 52).
3.
Slowly pour distilled water into each battery cell
until the level is up to the lower part of the tube
(Fig. 52).
IMPORTANT: Do not overfill the battery
because electrolyte (sulfuric acid) can cause
severe corrosion and damage to the chassis.
4.
Press the cell cover onto the battery.
Removing the Battery
1.
Disengage the power take off (PTO), set the
parking brake, lower the attachment lift, and turn
the ignition key to “STOP” to stop the engine.
Remove the ignition key.
2.
Open the hood.
3.
Remove the battery hold–down brackets
(Fig. 53).
IMPORTANT: Always disconnect the
negative (black) cable first.
4.
Disconnect the negative (black) ground cable
from the battery post (Fig. 53).
5.
Disconnect the positive (red) cable from the
battery post (Fig. 53).
6.
Remove the battery by lifting it up and out of the
engine compartment.
IMPORTANT: Always hold the battery
vertical to avoid spilling battery acid.
