9. Turn the key to the start position and the glow plug
indicator light will come back on. When the engine
starts, release the key (Figure 12).
Important:
Use starting cycles of no more than
30 seconds per minute to avoid overheating the
starter motor.
10. If the engine does not start immediately, move the
throttle control to fast and turn the key to the start
position.
Note:
Additional starting cycles may be required
when starting the engine for the first time after the
fuel system has been completely without fuel.

Starting the Engine in Cold Weather
(Below 23°F or -5°C)
Use the correct engine oil for the starting temperature.
Refer to Servicing the Engine Oil in Engine
Maintenance , page 31.
1. Start the engine with the throttle in the
Fast
position.
2. Turn the ignition key clockwise to the run position
(Figure 12).
3. Push the glow plug switch for 10 to 15 seconds.
The light will turn on.
4. Release the switch after 10 to 15 seconds. The light
will turn off.
5. Turn the key to the start position and the glow plug
indicator light will come back on. When the engine
starts, release the key.
