Getting Started
Setting up your computer
Information on diskettes is stored magnetically. Getting a
magnet too close to a diskette can erase important files.
❖
Scan all new files for viruses.
This precaution is especially important for files you receive
via diskette or email, or download from the Internet.
Setting up your computer
Your computer comes with a rechargeable main battery pack that
must be charged before you can use it.
To use external power or to charge the main battery, you must
attach the AC adapter. See
“Connecting to an AC outlet” on
You may also wish to connect additional equipment to your
computer.
You can connect an optional high-capacity battery pack to the
underside of the computer to increase the time you can work while
traveling. You must charge the optional high-capacity battery pack
in the optional battery charger before using it.
You can connect an external monitor, the external USB diskette
drive, a USB mouse and a full-size USB keyboard directly to the
computer. Although there is just one USB port, you can
daisychain USB devices (connect them in series).
To use a PS/2-compatible mouse, full-size PS/2-compatible
keyboard, and a printer, you must attach the computer to the LAN
Port Replicator or the optional Multimedia Port Replicator or I/O
Adapter. These expansion devices also provide a monitor port and
USB port.
To connect the computer to a network, you must attach it to the
LAN Port Replicator or to the optional Multimedia Port
Replicator, which have built-in Ethernet modules.
