Learning the Basics
Using the keyboard

Use ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter regularly to conserve
disk space and improve performance. Consult your Windows
documentation for instructions.
❖
Always turn off your computer using the Shut Down or
Standby command in Windows 98 Second Edition, or using
the Shut Down or the Suspend command in Windows NT. Do
not turn off the computer using the Power button.
TECHNICAL NOTE: Windows records information, such as
your desktop setup, during its shutdown procedure. If you
don’t let Windows shut down, details such as new icon
positions may be lost.
