The OS does not boot, or the OS bootup stops midway
There are various factors, ranging from the hardware connection to the installed OS
status which could be causing the problem. Execute the following procedure to isolate
the problem. If this does not remedy the problem, proceed to
Remedy when Windows
2000 is Unusable
on page 252. Also refer to
Connecting Hardware Devices
on page 48.

Are all cables properly connected?

Is a floppy disk inserted in the floppy disk drive?

Are the jumper switches and other switches properly set on expansion cards and
peripheral devices?

Are expansion cards and the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) properly connected?

Is the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) formatted and properly set up?

Is the correct version of each device driver installed?

For rack-mounted models: Is the rack’s KVM switchbox set to select the server?
Windows 2000 is locked or cannot be used
Reboot the server. If Windows 2000 can be used after rebooting the server, proceed to
Remedy when Windows 2000 is Usable
on page 252.
If Windows 2000 cannot be used, proceed to
Remedy when Windows 2000 is Unusable
on page 252.
The power button does not function after a system abort
If after a system abort, the system cannot be started using the power button, unplug the
power cable, reconnect it, and then turn on the power.
