MWI requires one or more dedicated VP 300 ports. The VP 300 cannot
use these ports to answer calls.

The attendant console and other Superset 4 telephones with the sub-
attendant feature have the capability to control message waiting
indicators. In either case, an employee whose message waiting
indicator is ON will not know whether the lamp is for the VP 300
Message Waiting Indication or for another message waiting
condition and will have to check for the source of the message.
Called Party
Called Party Identification allows the VP 300 to identify the source
Identification
(extension or external trunk number) of direct calls and the source and the
original called extension of forwarded calls. With this information, the VP
300 can process the various types of calls appropriately. The VP 300
receives the necessary call information from the Mitel SX-200 Digital
through the Superset lines of the MIC. The following section describes
how the Mitel SX-200 Digital and Called Party Identification work with
the VP 300’s call processing features.
With Called Party Identification, the VP 300 distinguishes between internal calls and external trunk
calls, as well as between direct calls and forwarded calls. The VP 300 identifies these different
types of calls with display information, which the PBX sends through the Superset lines of the MIC.
The following describes how the VP 300 uses call record information to identify and process
various types of calls.
When phones are set to forward to the VP 300 on ring-no-answer (RNA)/busy, the VP 300 provides
secondary answering for both internal and external calls. The Mitel SX-200 Digital does not
provide the VP 300 with the reason a call was forwarded, so the VP 300 reports the status of all
forwarded calls as “Extension XXX is unavailable…”
Direct Calls from
Specific trunk groups of the Mitel SX-200 Digital can be directed to the
External Trunks
VP 300 for answering via the Mitel SX-200 Digital’s trunk configuration.
Refer to the Mitel SX-200 Digital Configuration, Trunks and Trunk
Groups for configuration of trunk groups requirements. For calls coming
in on these trunk groups, the Mitel SX-200 Digital provides the VP 300
with a display containing the following information:
XXX is the three-digit trunk number that the VP 300 uses to identify
trunk groups. With this information, the VP 300 can process external calls
according to which trunk they are received on.
The VP 300 answers an external call with the company greeting assigned
to the trunk group containing that call. Since the VP 300 identifies which
trunk a call comes in on, different company greetings may be configured
for different trunk groups.
Upon hearing the greeting, the caller may dial an extension number. The
VP 300 transfers the call to ringing. The caller then hears ringback until
