2.7.2 STO (Safe Torque Off)

Danger of death, serious injury and/or damage to property due to
uncontrolled motor shaft movements when the STO safety function is
activated.
The safety function does not prevent the motor shaft from creeping back
(no safe braking), but only active torque generation. The motor shaft can
be set in motion by external forces (tensioned spring, suspended load, ...).
The system risk analysis must take account of all active components,
which influence the passive behavior of the drive.
The correct function must first be ensured by a protected test run.
Safe torque switch-off occurs in accordance with EN 61800-5-2. The energy supply to the drive con-
troller is disconnected by a safe mechanism, which corresponds to an uncontrolled stop in accordance
with IEC 60204-1, Stop Category 0.
