5.1 PROFIBUS-DP interface
PROFIBUS is a continuous, open, digital communication system with a broad range of
applications, particularly in manufacturing and process automation. PROFIBUS is
suitable for fast, time-sensitive and complex communication tasks.
PROFIBUS communication
is based on the international standards IEC 61158 and
IEC 61784. The application and engineering aspects are defined in the PROFIBUS
User Organization guidelines. These serve to fulfill the user requirements for a
manufacturer independent and open system where the communication between
devices from different manufacturers is guaranteed without modification of the
devices.
The Installation Guideline for PROFIBUS-DP/FMS (order no.: 2.111, describes the
installation and wiring recommendations for RS 485 transmission) and further
information on PROFIBUS is available from the PROFIBUS User Organization:

5.1.1 DP Communication protocol
The laser measuring devices support the
DP
communication protocol, which is
designed for fast data exchange on the field level. The basic functionality is defined by
the performance level
V0
. This includes cyclic data exchange, as well as the station,
module and channel-specific diagnosis.
