Troubleshooting Performance Issues
This
section
lists
some
components
to
check
for
peak
performance.
Cable
length/quality
:
Do
not
exceed
the
max
recommended
length
for
your
cable
type.
Use
shorter
lengths
where
possible
for
better
performance.
Check
both
ends
for
damaged
or
loose
connectors.
Check
cables
for
kinks
or
damaged
segments.
Bus
speed/traffic
:
the
PCI
bus
accommodates
the
slowest
PCI
card
installed.
Check
if
you
have
a
card
that
is
slowing
down
your
system.
Processor
and
memory
:
Check
your
performance
monitoring
programs
and
see
if
traffic
is
being
affected
by
your
processor
speed,
available
memory,
or
other
processes.
Transmission
frame
size
:
try
adjusting
or
maximizing
the
transmission
frame
size.
Note
that
OSes,
switches,
and
NICs
each
impose
different
limits
on
max
fame
size
(MTU).
Check
your
OS
documentation
for
Jumbo
frames
support.
Operating
System
:
Network
feature
implementations
(e.g.,
WOL,
Jumbo
frames,
segmentation)
vary
by
OS.
