Water treatment
The optimal values for incoming water are highlighted in the table: the three fundamental water parameters (pH,
hardness and alkalinity) are frequently measured and then balanced using specific products, readily available in
specialised stores.
Minipools installed outdoors or subject to intensive use require more frequent checks of the three param-
eters as they are subject to the weather (e.g., heat from the sun and rain) and organic substances carried
into the water by users.

damage to the walls of the minipool, the pipes, the filters,
as well as the heating unit and pumps. Very hard waters are
conducive to the proliferation of algae.
The unit of measurement of hardness is °f (French degree), where one degree represents 10 mg of calcium
carbonate (CaCO3) - limestone - per litre of water (1°f = 10 mg of calcium carbonate per litre of water).
The simplest means to measure hardness is to use a reagent in drops or soluble tablets - readily available
in specialised stores - and follow the instructions attached to the product.
During pre-installation/installation of the minipool, if the water hardness was not optimal the installer should have
added a water softener.
If this was not done, it is possible to use specific products available in specialised shops (for example organic or
inorganic stabilisers or sequestering agents).

The simplest way to measure pH is to use a reagent (usually rossophenol is used) in drops or soluble tablets,
readily available in specialised stores.
When placed in contact with the water to be analysed, it takes on a colour ranging from red (pH 8.4) to yel-
low (pH 6.8). By comparing the colour with colour tables one can quickly identify the pH of the water.
If the pH is found to be lower or higher than optimal, it is necessary to use an acidity/basicity adjuster, easily avail-
able in specialised shops or by contacting the Manufacturer. For the quantities follow the product's instructions.
Regardless of the formulation used, it is recommended to spread the product in different parts of the minipool to
avoid creating excessive concentrations.
The pH should usually be checked 1 - 2 times a week under normal conditions of use (e.g., family use) or daily if
the minipool is used intensively (e.g., wellness centres) or if it is installed outdoors.
In the latter case, check the pH of the water after each storm.

The alkalinity value is determined by the following chemical compounds present in the water: carbon diox-
ide, carbonates, bicarbonates and hydrates IT IS very important to stabilize the total alkalinity values as they
also influence the pH. The alkalinity is found using the appropriate test kits that are readily available in
specialised shops.
Alkalinity can vary:
• Adding dry acid to the bathtub (to lower it).
• Adding sodium bicarbonate to the bathtub (to increase it).
