Understanding Updatable Components
Network VirusWall Enforcer 2500 uses the following components to detect, prevent
or contain, and eliminate malware outbreaks:
•
Network Scan Engine– scans all traffic passing through Network VirusWall
Enforcer 2500 at the packet level.
The network scan engine specifically searches for network viruses.
•
Network Virus Pattern– contains a regularly updated database of packet-level
network virus patterns.
Trend Micro often updates the network virus pattern file to help ensure Network
VirusWall Enforcer 2500 can identify any new network viruses.

File Virus Engine—scans files in the system folder.
•
File Virus Pattern—contains a regularly updated database of virus patterns.
•
Vulnerability Engine—scans for vulnerabilities.
•
Vulnerability Assessment Pattern—contains information about vulnerabilities
and associated viruses.
•
Damage Cleanup Engine—scans for and repairs damage caused by viruses and
spyware/grayware.
•
Damage Cleanup Pattern—contains information about the latest known viruses
and spyware/grayware.
•
Pattern Release History—contains information about antivirus product pattern
version releases.
•
Program file– the Network VirusWall Enforcer 2500 program, also referred to as
the image, which includes the operating system, system programs, and all
components necessary to get Network VirusWall Enforcer 2500 functioning
properly. When you manually update the program file, Network VirusWall
Enforcer 2500 prompts you to reboot the device if necessary. Otherwise, for
scheduled program file updates, the device automatically reboots after the update
when necessary.
