LOCKING FEATURES (OPTIONAL)
NOTE: The locking features are designed
to discourage unauthorized removal of
the battery or smoke/CO detector. It is not
necessary to activate the locks in single-family
households where unauthorized battery or
detector removal is not a concern.
NOTE: These smoke/CO detectors have two
separate locking features: one locks the
battery compartment, and the other locks the
smoke/CO detector to the mounting bracket.
Use either feature independently or use them
both.
NOTE: Both locking features use locking pins
molded into the mounting bracket. Using
needle nose pliers or a utility knife, remove
one or both pins, depending on which locking
features are used.
LOCKING THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT
IMPORTANT! Do not lock the battery
compartment until battery has been activated
and smoke/CO detector has been tested.
1. Activate the battery by removing the "Pull to Activate
Battery" tab. Push and hold the test button on the
smoke/CO detector's cover until the smoke/CO
detector sounds: four beeps, pause, four beeps,
pause, three beeps, pause, three beeps, pause.
(See Figure 4)
IMPORTANT! If the smoke/CO detector does not
sound during testing, do not lock the battery
compartment. Install a new battery and test
again. If it still does not sound, replace the
smoke/CO detector immediately.
