Operating instructions Ubbink BioPressure 3000/7000
Installation
Always switch off the power supply of the UV-C device and then the pump when the BioPressure-Filter must be maintained as this requires the opening of the pressure fi lter!
1. Determine the location of your BioPressure-Filter (Observing the safety notices). An installation of the fi lter is either possible above the ground or installed in the ground. When
burying the BioPressure-Filter up to the top of the cover, care must be taken that the fi lter stays standing vertically and that it is supported using sand or earth.
2. Grease the rubber sealing ring using the supplied preservation and sealing medium (in a tube) and insert into the correct position of the fi lter cover. Make sure that the sealing ring
is placed on the outer side.
3. Place the cover of the fi lter onto the housing and connect them by clicking the two halves of the connecting rings over the edges of the housing and cover. Afterwards, screw the
two halves of the connecting rings together.
4. Hose connection fi lter inlet: Cut the 25 mm hose to the required length and then connect the hose ends to the pump outlet and fi lter inlet (A) and secure with hose clamps. Install
the pump on a stable base in the pond that is free of sludge and dirt. Before starting up the pump, please read the operating instructions and observe the safety notices and
guidelines regarding the minimum depth of water.
5. Hose connection fi lter outlet: Shorten the 25 mm hose to the required length. Connect one hose end to the transparent hose nozzle (B) at the fi lter outlet and secure it with a hose
clamp. Lay the other hose end back to the pond or waterfall. If the fi ltered water is fed back to the pond, the water must fl ow into the pond from a height of approx. 15 – 20 cm.
6. Hose connection, dirt drainage: Shorten the 25 mm hose to the required length. Connect one hose end to the hose nozzle (C) of the hose valve (D) and secure with a hose clamp.
The other hose end must be laid to the waste water connection or a location where the waste water can be disposed of.
7. Fitting the UVC-lamp: Before unscrewing the cover, the small safety screw must be removed, see fi gure (1) on page 2 of this operating instruction. After this, insert the UV-C lamp
into its mounting and refi t the cover hand tight. Refi t the safety screw again
8. First of all, the pump must be switched on to control if the water fl ows through the BioPressure-Filter with the UV-C device simultaneously and the complete fi lter system,
including all hoses must be checked for leaks.
9. Now the UV–C device may be switched on and the function of the UV-C lamp can be checked using the transparent hose connection.
10. It is important that your BioPressure-Filter operates without interruptions. The fi lter can be taken completely out of operation for maintenance purposes or during the winter
periods when the fi shes are not active and when no algae can grow. We recommend that the UV-C device is not switched on during the development of the bacteria in the
BioPressure-Filter (approx. 6 – 8 weeks).
11. If the BioPressure-Filter must be deactivated (maintenance / winter periods), the UV-C device must always be switched off fi rst of all. The pump may only then be turned off and
the water can be drained out of the fi lter.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Always switch off the power supply of the UV-C device and then the pump when the BioPressure-Filter must be maintained as this requires the opening of the pressure fi lter!
1. All BioPressure-Filters are fi tted with a newly developed foul water outlet and level fi lter mat system that reduces the maintenance and cleaning process considerably.
2. The level fi lter mat must only be cleaned and rinsed once a year (when it is taken out of operation fort he winter period) and therefore, the biological decomposition process that
takes place in the fi lter is not interrupted. The water is guided through the level fi lter mat over a specially developed water guiding system. That is the reason why there is no
danger of blockages, even when fi ltering very dirty pond water.
3. After the initiation of the BioPressure-Filter, it may be necessary to rinse the sludge and dirt that has settled in the fi lter – especially in the fi rst few weeks - depending on the
degree of fouling of the pond water. The BioPressure-Filters must not be removed from operation for this purpose. During the normal fi lter operation, only the outlet ball valve
must be opened to allow the dirt to fl ow out through the standpipe under pressure and can then be guided to the waste water connection using a hose. It is adequate enough
when the accumulation of dirt is rinsed out every 6 – 8 weeks with normal fouling. With the higher rate of fouling of the pond water at the beginning, the dirt must be rinsed out
in shorter intervals that are reduced with the reduction of the fouling. The resulted loss of water must be compensated.
4. The UV-C device that is integrated in the BioPressure-Filters are fi tted with UV-C lamps that have a life span of approx. 5.000 hours of operation. After this operation period, the
UV-C performance has been reduced so that the UV-C lamp must be replaced. The UV-C replacement lamp (PL-S 5 W for BioPressure 3000 and PL-S 9 W for BioPressure 7000) that is
required for the replacement can be purchased at your local Ubbink specialist dealer.
5. The UV-C device must be cleaned at least twice a year independent on the grade of fouling of the pond water. After the growth of algae has increased in your pond, the bulb
made of quartz glass that is located in the UV-C device must be cleaned from dirt and lime using a soft cloth that is soaked in a mild cleaning agent. Avoid causing scratching
marks on the quartz glass and do not touch the glass bulb using your hands. Sweat and fat are burned onto the glass bulb through the UV-C rays that may result in a later loss off
performance of the UV-C device.
The maintenance of the UV-C device is carried out as follows:
1. First of all, switch off the UV-C device and after this pull the mains plug of the pump that switches the pump off .
2. Remove the attached protective cover from the BioPressure-Filter
3. (See also the drawing on page 2 of this operating instruction) Before unscrewing the screw lid of the UV-C device, the safety screw must be removed (fi gure 1).
4. Unscrew the threaded ring, positioned inside with the supplied special key (fi gures 2 +3).
5. Knock the fi lter cover with the quartz glass opening downward into your open hand until the quartz glass loosens and drops out (fi gure 4). Please make sure the seals will not be
lost!
6. Now clean the housing, the quartz glass bulb and if necessary, replace the UV-C lamp.
7. After the maintenance, replace all components in reverse order and make sure that the sealing ring is inserted correctly.
8. Finally the pump must be connected fi rst of all then the UV-C device.
Guarantee
We grant a guarantee of 3 years against material and manufacturer faults on the Ubbink BioPressure-Filter that applies of from the date of purchase: The original sales receipt has to be
presented as proof of purchase if claims are made on the guarantee.
Additionally, we will grant a 12 month clean water guarantee for clean and healthy water on the Ubbink BioPressure-Filter. This guarantee is valid for 12 months from the date
of purchase on condition that there is no success in detecting fouled water when fi ltering the pond water, especially with the decomposition of fl oating algae 6 weeks after the
BioPressure-Filter has been initiated. For any claims made on the clear water guarantee, Ubbink presupposes that the operating instructions have been observed and that a suitable
system (BioPressure-Filter and recommended pump) have been selected for the chosen pond.
Parts that are excluded from the guarantee:
- Breakage of glass or faulty UV-C bulbs and / or quartz glass of the UV-C device
- Complaints that are caused by faults through mounting and user faults, lack of care, infl uence of frost, improper repair service, results of violence, third party negligence,
overstressing, mechanical damages or through the exposure of foreign bodies as well as through worn parts because of wear.
