Introduction
The CA383B measures both AC and DC current and is compatible with
most DMMs which have a 200mV and 200mA AC range or a 40mA and
400mA AC range.
Features include
• 300 Amps AC
• Max. jaw opening 1.2” (30mm)
• Dimensions: 3.1 x 6.1 x 1.4 (89 x 156 x 35mm)
• Output: 1mV AC per 0.1 Amp AC
Operating Instructions
Measuring AC Current
1. Observing the polarity markings on the CA383B connector,
plug the test lead into the input jacks on your digital
multimeter. The
"-"
on the CA383B connector plugs into
the
"COM"
jack and the
"+"
plugs into the
"mA/µA"
jack on
your multimeter.
2. If your multimeter is equipped with a 20mA and 200A AC range
use one of the following settings:
a) Set the multimeter on 20mA AC and the CA383B on the 40
range for measuring 0 to 20A AC.
b) Set the multimeter on 200mA AC and the CA383B on the
400 range for measuring 0 to 200A AC.
If your multimeter is equipped with a 40mA and 400A AC range
use one of the following settings:
a) Set the multimeter on 40mA AC and the CA383B on the 40
range for measuring 0 to 40A AC.
b) Set the multimeter on 400mA AC and the CA383B on the
400 range for measuring 0 to 400A AC.
3. Clamp the jaw of the CA383B around a single current
carrying wire.
NOTE:
Clamp around only one wire at a time. If the CA383B
is clamped around two or more wires, it will not work properly
4. Take the reading directly from the digital multimeter's display.
NOTE:
1mV = 1A
