If, after changing the amplification, you find that the waveform peaks or
touches the top and bottom edges of the edit window (± 100% on the
amplitude scale), then you may find some distortion or noise has been
created. In such cases, undo the amplification and click Effect: Normal-
ize. This adjusts the waveform’s amplitude so that it does not peak above
or below the amplitude scale. (In some cases, you may not see much
change to the waveform after normalizing depending on the existing
amplification levels.)

Changing pitch
An audio file’s pitch defines how high or low it sounds. A high pitch may
be very shrill, like a whistle, while a low pitch may be very deep, like a
fog horn. To adjust an audio file’s pitch, click Effect: Pitch. This opens
the Pitch dialog box where you can raise or lower the pitch by dragging on
the Pitch slider. Moving to the left lowers the pitch, while moving to the
right makes it higher.
