Problem:
You see a message that your application can’t be opened because a file can’t
be found.
Cause:
Some Power Macintosh programs (compatible with the
SuperMac J700 computer) use special files called
shared libraries. Any necessary shared libraries
should be installed automatically when you install
Power Macintosh applications.
Solution:
Follow the directions that came with your program to
reinstall the program. If the shared library is still
missing, contact the software application’s
manufacturer for assistance.
Problem:
You experience problems using an older Macintosh program.
Cause:
The program is probably not completely compatible
with Power Macintosh computers, such as the SuperMac
J700.
Solution:
Open the Memory control panel and turn off Modern
Memory Manager. For more detailed instructions, see
the “Working with Programs” topic in the Macintosh
Guide.
Problem:
Your computer’s performance decreases.
Cause:
If you notice a decrease in your computer’s speed and
performance after you add special software (a control
panel, system extension, or custom utility), it may be
because your special software does not work well with
Power Macintosh computers.
Solution:
To find out if your special software is the problem,
hold down the Shift key while you restart the
computer. This temporarily turns off certain kinds of
software. If the computer performs better without this
software, the software is likely to be the problem. See
page 60 in this chapter for more information.
