When moving with the rated tire pressure:
- on the URAL-4320-31, the URAL-4320-0611-31 trucks, the URAL-
4420-31 bolster trucks the wheel valves of the front axle should be closed and
those of the rear bogie should be open;
- on the URAL-4320-0911-30 trucks, the URAL-44202-0612-30 the
wheel valves of the front axle should be open and those of the rear bogie should be
closed.
Fording.
The truck can cross fords, 0.7 m deep. After special preparations the
truck equipped with a sealing system is capable to cross the fords from 1.2 m to 1.7
m deep (these figures include a wave height). Crossing a deep-water ford requires
a great care. Prior to fording it is necessary to measure the ford depth very careful-
ly, to check the condition of the ford bottom, to make sure there are no pits, large
stones, swampy places, to choose and check the places where the truck is to enter
the water and get out of it, as well as mark deep places with surveying rods.
To cross over a ford down to 1 m deep:
- close the radiator with its shutter;
- set the rated tire pressure.
To cross over a deeper ford:
- on the truck equipped with a fan coupling, set the fan friction drive switch
to the forced switching-off position, having set the handle of fan coupling control
valve to the position designated as “O”;
- make the storage batteries watertight by inserting rubber pads into the
battery plugs and screwing the plugs tight;
- remove the mud from the resting surface of the exhaust pipe flange, install
the fording valve with the flap joint upward;
- check the fastening of the gas exhaust system connections.
Cross over the ford with the first or second gears engaged in the gearbox, the
reduction gear engaged in the transfer box and the locked inter-axle differential.
Enter the water at a low speed, not generating waves. Avoid manoeuvring and do
not stop. The time of truck staying in the water should not exceed 15 min.
To avoid penetration of mud and water into the tool box press its cover tight
with the help of the central screw. Upon fording, open the tool box, remove the
water and dry the tools.
After fording, check the oil level in the truck engine and units. The increased
oil level
