Maintenance of Steering
Steering maintenance consists of regular inspection of fixing of steering gear,
pipes, protective coupling of the booster rod; checking that the steering wheel
turns freely; also servicing the units of the hydraulic system. Disassemble and
reassemble the units, when it need be, only under conditions of complete
cleanness. If rubber rings are stiffened or faulty, replace them.
Prior to diassembling the pump, mark the distributor disc position about the
stator, also the stator position about the pump body (the arrow marked on the
stator points to the sense of rotation of the pump shaft).
Stator, rotor and blades of the booster pump are fitted individually one to
another, as well as the by-pass valve and the pump cover; therefore, do not
disturb their complete set.
If minor scores are seen on the end faces of the rotor, body, and dis-
tributor disc, lap one to the other. When disassembling the pump, see that
