7 Maintenance
Maintenance is intended for maintaining of the truck in working order and appropriate
outer appearance, for decreasing of the wear-out rate of details, preventing failures and malfunc-
tions, and also their identifying for timely elimination. Maintenance is a preventive measure,
compulsory for implementing on a regular basis after specified lifetime mileages or working peri-
od of the truck.
An observation of a periodicity and qualitative performance of maintenance, when re-
quired, provides a constant mechanical availability of the truck and decreases maintenance re-
quirements. For qualitative performance of the work maintenance has to be performed in special
stations equipped with necessary tools and devices.
Works, connected with adjustment and maintenance of devices of the engine feed sys-
tem, electrical equipment, have to be implemented by skilled technicians.
Types of Maintenance
According to the periodicity and the work labour input, maintenance is divided into the
following types:
- daily maintenance;
- maintenance upon its return from a trip;
- maintenance at initial operating period (Maintenance 1500-3000);
- maintenance at operating period (Maintenance - 15000);
Periodicity of Maintenance
Lifetime mileages and working hours of the power unit between maintenance for the
first operation category are provided in accordance with GOST 21624.
Periodicity of maintenance is adjusted in accordance with the category of truck service
conditions and climatic and natural districts of the truck operation in accordance with the Appen-
dix J.
Daily maintenance is implemented before the truck departure and after its return.
Maintenance at initial operating period is implemented every 1500-3000 km of lifetime
mileages (50-100 hours of engine running). Maintenance at operating period is every 15 000 km
of lifetime mileages (500 hours of engine running).
Maintenance of the special vehicles, intended for process operation (maintenance facili-
ties, lorry cranes, special-purpose machines for oil and gas complex and etc.), should be per-
formed according to the hour-meter.
For trucks, implementing the transportation (fuel trucks, dump trucks, bus trucks, trac-
tion units), maintenance should be performed according to the lifetime mileage.
30 km of the lifetime mileage corresponds to 1 service meter hour.
