Remember that correct procedure of wheel fitting and dismantling ensures safety and reduc-
es labour efforts, allows prolonging tire, wheel and mounting tool life.
4.3.3.5 Wheel Disassembly
1. Put the wheel on an even clean surface lock part facing up, check that the tire is com-
pletely deflated, disconnect the gate from the wheel valve and sink it together with the seal in the tire
cavity, remove the wheel valve. Mark the position of balance weights on the balanced wheel, on the
rim and on the tire, and remove the balance weights.
2. Take down tire side wall from the rim seat, to do that insert flat end of a tire iron to the
special slot between the bead and lock rings, and press the bead ring down, in the backlash appeared
insert the flat end of a second tire iron (see Figure 73,I). Press both irons and moving them one by
one along the tire at the distance of 50-100 mm from each other, upset the bead ring together with the
tire side wall down, and then using hook-end of a big tyre iron completely remove (upset) tire side
wall along the rim seat.
If it is difficult to remove tire side wall from the rim seat after long operation, as well as if it
is removed from non-removable rim outboard flange, remove the side wall from its seat directly
pushing it with tire irons. To do that:
- insert flat end of a tire iron as far as possible between the tire side wall and the wheel bead
ring, upset the iron down;
- then put the hook-end of a big tire iron between the first iron and the rim outboard flange
(bead ring) so that flat end of the short tire iron comes to the slot (hammer can be used), and resting
one tire iron on the other one and safely grasping the bead ring with the hook-end of the iron and
pressing both irons at the same time (see Figure 73, II) upset tire side wall down;
- repeat this method turning round the wheel and remove tire side wall from the rim seat. At
the beginning distance between points of tool application should not exceed 100 mm.
I, II - tire beads disassembly from the
seat; III - tire bead dismantling from
the rim; 1,2-tire irons
