Coupler distance - several short segments
The situation here exists if there are several short segments in series. There is a short segment present if the
segment length l
S
is equal to or less than the coupler distance D - l
S
≤
D.
The prerequisite is that all segment sections are being fed - data communication is possible to each segment
section.
This could be the case, for instance, if
•
Several switch segments run consecutively
•
Diagnosis segment and switch segment(s) run consecutively
•
Double switches with short interim pieces

TIPS AND RECOMMENDATIONS!
Information on static case (several short segments)
The static case (participants in standstill) must be separately considered in a route
section with several short elements in series. Through the short segments, there is a
higher risk that both couplers could come to a standstill in an area in which there is no
data communication.
If you have any questions please get in touch with VAHLE customer service.
If the case is dynamic, (participants are moving), an additional distance factor has to be taken into consider-
ation. To do that, comply with the chart on the coupler clearance distances.
