Underexcitation protection (40)
The underexcitation protection protects the generator and the
power system against loss of synchronism. When the generator
produces capacitive power, that is when the reactive component
of the power vector is negative, the excitation current can be so
low, that the synchronism is lost.
The measurement of the degree of excitation is based on a
complex three-phase power vector, which is calculated from the
fundamental components of the phase currents and phase-to-
phase voltages.
