Backup and Restore
8.1
Overview
Backup and restore functionality means that administrators can keep reserve appliances and upload configuration
settings, which have previously been backed up to their network, onto a new aXsGUARD Identifier. The backup and
restore functionality is managed through the aXsGUARD Identifier Configuration Tool (see section
Administration Interfaces).
In the following sections, we explain the backup and restore functionality, and the feedback provided. How to use
this functionality is explained in the
aXsGUARD Identifier Installation Guide
delivered with the aXsGUARD Identifier,
and also available through the
Help
button in the Configuration Tool.
8.2
Backup
Backup is a simple manual functionality provided through the Configuration Tool, for administrators to back up the
aXsGUARD Identifier database data and configuration settings.
The backup includes all configurations of the Administration Web Interface and Configuration Tool and all database
information, such as DIGIPASS runtime information.
The backup does not include audit and logging data. Audit data can be backed up, however, using a replication
setup, in which case audit data is replicated to another aXsGUARD Identifier (see section
8.3
Restore
The restore function provided through the Configuration Tool allows administrators to upload configuration settings
and data, which have been backed up from the same or another appliance, to the aXsGUARD Identifier internal
database.
The file to be restored is first verified as a valid restore file. The aXsGUARD Identifier needs to be rebooted before
the restore is completed. When the file has been restored, feedback on the backup restore is displayed on the
Status
screen in the Configuration tool.
If restored to the same appliance, perhaps following a configuration error or loss of data, the settings and data
simply overwrite those currently in the appliance, without the need for re-registration.
If restored to another appliance, the existing License on the aXsGUARD Identifier is removed without restoring the
License in the backup. Re-registration is therefore required. The backup must first be restored, and then re-
registration completed (see section
Caution:
Restoring a backup of a newer version of the aXsGUARD Identifier is not supported.
