Audio I/O
In parallel to video, audio signals can be transmitted in both directions between a re-
mote sending station and a receiver. This feature allows to follow the events at the
camera location acoustically or to make announcements to that location (only for
transmission over ISDN networks).
F
Note:
Since the audio signals are transmitted at a higher priority in compar-
ison to the video data, it takes more time to update the live video pic-
tures while audio is switched on. Therefore the audio feature should
be switched off if not required, in order to avoid unnecessary slow-
down of the video transmission.
Connecting the audio input
Typically, a microphone is connected to the audio input using a pre-amplifier, which
delivers approximately 100 mV
PP
. The input impedance is 47 k
Ω
. Line-level audio
sources can be connected directly.
The audio input is equipped with a 3.5mm mini jack, labelled ‘Audio’. The contact at
the tip of the jack carries the audio signal.
NetCamPlus with built-in audio option features an integrated microphone. In addition,
an external microphone can be connected at the screw terminal which is labelled ’Au-
dio’ (see figure in section 3.3.4 on page 21) and can be used alternatively to a built-
in microphone. If the audio option is not installed, the corresponding screw terminal
at the rear side is not connected.
Connecting the audio output
Typically a suitable power amplifier is connected to the audio output for operation of
a speaker. The output level is rated at approximately 1 V
PP
. Monitors with amplified
speakers can be hooked up directly to the audio output.
For NetCam1 and NetCam6 the audio output signal is available at the connector la-
belled ‘Alarm’ (see the figure in section 3.3.4 on page 21) at pin 7 (signal) and pin 4
(GND).
NetCamPlus with built-in audio option features an integrated speaker, which can be
operated in hands-free mode, i.e. built-in echo cancellation for speakerphone-like full-
duplex audio transmission. The audio output signal is also available at the screw ter-
minal which is labelled ’Audio’ (see figure in section 3.3.4 on page 21) for connection
to an external power amplifier and speaker. Both internal and external speaker can
be operated in parallel at the same time. If the audio option is not installed, the corre-
sponding screw terminal at the rear side is not used.
